'Strangers in Paradise' Ending in 2007
With Issue #90
#79 Out on Wed.
January 17, 2006
Terry Moore's Strangers in Paradise, one of the most successful self-published comic book series of the past decade, will end with issue #90, which is slated to reach retailers in May of 2007. Moore began this long running chronicle of the lives and loves of 3 friends (Francine, Katchoo and David) in a 3-issue mini series published by Antarctic Press in 1993. Following the release of the initial mini-series, Moore founded his own publishing company, Abstract Studio, and except for eight full color issues published by Homage in 1996-97, he has continued to publish both single issues and graphic novel collections under his own imprint. Issue #79 will be in stores on Wednesday, and Moore, who releases a new issue every six weeks, has announced that the final arc of the Strangers in Paradise saga will end with issue #90 in May of next year.
Moore's series has won a number of awards including an Inkpot in 2003, an American Library Association 'Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults' citation in 2002, the GLAAD Media Award for Best Comic Book in 2000, and the 1996 Will Eisner Comic Industry Award for Best Serialized Story.
